OUTPOST will be performing at La Trobe University (Bundoora) Art Museum as part of the Darebin Music Feast as part of the Vera Möller: Neomorphics exhibition. We are performing at around 7pm on the 17th,18th and 19th of September. Stay tuned for further details as they come to light.

Huge thanks to Dylab and Steve Law for doing a few extra trips to the car and bringing down the hardware for some inspiring solo sets. I have cut together video of the first jam and Boz recorded the second jam as audio. They will be posted up shortly so stay tuned.

Next OUTPOST will be pretty tasty with 2 feature sets that should inspire an eclectic night of music and video. Stay posted for details closer to the date.

Also, I’ve been able to find the time to get it together to go thru the recordings for both OUTPOST #15 and OUTPOST #16, so there will be 4 new podcasts following this post! If you don’t know about the podcast you can subscribe via iTunes here.

Our secret and special guest was Robert Henke (aka Monolake) who was very generous with his time and played a great 1 hour 15 min set using his amazing Monodeck II interface (video), Ableton Live* and a MacBook that is on loan to him from Arck after his own laptop suffered a completely terminal motherboard failure. Big thanks again to Robert for coming down to be part of OUTPOST.

We also had a fab set from Evil Jed who bought his multi-pedal and laptop combo down to Horse Bazaar to lay some some tight breaks and great atmoses. Thanks to Jed for making it down as well.

And as always thanks to all the jammers – especially a strong turn out from our VJ’s: Matt Gingold, Projector Obscura and Jonty Burton among others.

Every night had a different flavor, big up to Boz for crunching and uploading all the performances to the site. It was great to have so much diversity in the performances and fun experimenting with different contexts established by artists scheduled for the main stage.

Matt Rosner and Simon Hampson’s feature set was fantastic, giving everyone there a treat and going all places good. The early starting time (due to Outpost sharing the night with Digital Fringe) caught a few crew off guard, big up to Sam and Jed for making the jams. Also good to see Amanaska who has just returned from a two month jaunt rocking the globe.

Time to synchronize watches, Melbourne International Festival is upon us and will feature eight nights of Outpost action with regular jammers, special guests and walk-ins.

Big up to video crew Projector Obscura who bumrushed the show with spare projector in hand. We hope to see them at future events.

Although we were one feature artist down, we had an abundance of jammers for #11 who collectively performed some fantastic spontaneous work. We captured all the audio from the jams and will be posting it up shortly.

Looks like there are some interesting things ahead for OUTPOST involving the Melbourne International Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival. We’re in the process of sorting the details at the moment but as soon as things are confirmed we’ll let you know!

Things have been quiet here at the old OUTPOST website for a while! We’ve all been busy gathering nuts for winter, y’see, rudy.

Anyhow, big thanks to all of you that came on down for OUTPOST #9 tonight. Special thanks to our 3 feature artists, SIMILAR, Robert Curgenven and Jean Poole who all played fab sets. Again thanks to the jammers for bringing it all along and making some crazy stuff!

Again, we were too all over the shop and couldn’t find the cables and shit we needed to record tonight, so no MP3’s or vids unfortunately. They all got lost in our burrow deep underneath a pile of tasty tasty acorns.

Next: OUTPOST #10 Wednesday 27th June. Bring nuts.

David Chesworth performed a great feature set early on flashing his electro-acoustic styles and setting a great vibe going. Jammers rolled up early for the first session and put in hardcore – great to have some new faces on deck (spread the word!).

Half time entertainment was assured through 9 Jammers willingness to have a crack at the improv game which was; three groups of 3 players (2 audio/one video), one ten minute slot for each group, one theme per group.

The themes in order; suspension, dynamic interjection and resolution. Massive props for all of y’all that played along. 

Robin Fox and Anthony Pateras… Killer.. All thriller, no filler. This was the most inspiring set in terms of shape, sonics and delivery. Right on lads, super heavyweight. Thanks so much for coming down.

Boz and JT are back in town for Outpost #9 so be sure to get on down.

Big thanks to all of you that came down to #6. Big cheers to J. David Franzke for playing a tidy little DJ set for us, and slipping some early Vangelis in there by way of a Aphrodite’s Child track. Also thanks to Matt Lewin aka “Space-cadet Lullabies” for giving us a seductive and restrained set of his melodic, ambient material.

We’re looking at making a few changes to how the night runs in the next few months ahead, so make sure you subscribe this page to your news reader, or check back regularly for all the latest.

Thanks to everyone that came down tonight to Outpost#5. Big thanks to the Life Size crew for coming down and getting dirty and fithy with their awesomely rude little show. I got a bit of cameraphone footage that should make it’s way onto YouTube in the next few days. Also a huge thanks to Soup for bringing down a mad set of some very fine downtempo feels. So many people down tonight! Awesome to have so many new faces at Horse Bazaar. Killer! Also we got the whole night down on disk, so once we’ve had a chance podcats and vids on YouTube coming your way.

Big ups to Matty and Lucy for providing such spontaneous and beautiful visuals and it was also great to hear some new jammers alongside regular attendees – repeat business is always good for Outpost events! Props to Jed for rocking the hacked Nintendo DS in the second jam..wicked.

Big Up to all the jammers who came and put in for some inspiring spontaneous creation. It was fantastic to make some new musical acquaintances and also to see many of you returning from previous events. Boz and I paused at one point during the second jam to note that there were folks rocking 10 machines simultaneously.. wicked!

Fantasic work also from Lucy, holding it down on the visuals alongside Matt and Eugenia. Thank you/please come again!

Keep an eye out though for some postings of #1 as soon as we get a nasty little corrupted video file fixed! Finally, big props to Euge for doing a stellar job on the visuals. That kid with the gun kept freaking me out!

We hope you all had a top time. It was ace to see so many people turn up with their machines and plug in and make some sounds together. We recorded the night onto disc and hopefully we can put a bit of an edit up as a podcast and post some visuals on YouTube. The whole night also webcast out of Horse Bazaar via their streaming servers, and they also recorded some stuff which should hit the web shortly. Also, when Dan gets a moment to scratch himself, we’ll chuck up a few stills onto Flickr as well.

Big thanks go out to the rest of the OUTPOST core, as well as to RMIT Union Arts for letting us use their PA for the night.

Also, we’ve changed the web page about a bit as we’re now using the killer WordPress software. This’ll mean that a bunch of other OUTPOSTers will be, ahem, posting content up on here for you all.

If anyone wants to do something special for future outposts, then get in touch with me. We’d be interesting in having some more people to play a solo or group feature set at the next event. There were a few times last night when the energy lulled, so were hoping to break up the jams a little with some feature stuff. It’ll give people a chance to grab a drink, say hi to people and get the energy up for more open jamming.

Also, remember to spead the word so we can see some new faces at OUTPOST#2, which is on October 25.
