July 2008 Wrap and Darebin Music Feast

It was great to have folks standing defiant against the chilly Melbourne winter and coming down to check out and perform at last night’s OUTPOST. First up, has to be said that Scotty Baker (aka abre ojos) performed a fantastic solo set on his suitcase modular synth and video, complete with vocal input! Great to see a few new faces down for the jams as well as the dedicated regulars. Big up to OUTPOST video queen Lucy Benson who came through with sourcing a video mixer in the 11th hour.

OUTPOST will be performing at La Trobe University (Bundoora) Art Museum as part of the Darebin Music Feast as part of the Vera Möller: Neomorphics exhibition. We are performing at around 7pm on the 17th,18th and 19th of September. Stay tuned for further details as they come to light.

June OUTPOST wrap

An awesome time was had by all at last night’s event. Big thanks to everyone who came down to play/perve/drink! The feature set from Soup was inspiring and it was great to hear him on the guitar, processing it up live and creating some lush cinematic textures. To those of you who came to jam for the first time, excellent work, please come again! As for our regulars, your continued support and input makes this monthly event a highlight.
Cheers

Outpost #18 wrap

Awesome work to everyone who came down and put in for Analog Outpost. It was really great to see such a variety of gear from old Roland and Yamaha boxes to a pocket theremin to a plethora of guitar pedals and a Moog Voyager.

Huge thanks to Dylab and Steve Law for doing a few extra trips to the car and bringing down the hardware for some inspiring solo sets. I have cut together video of the first jam and Boz recorded the second jam as audio. They will be posted up shortly so stay tuned.

OUTPOST #16 wrap

Thanks to all that came down for a relatively subdued OUTPOST #16 !. Also a huge thanks to Steve and Ross from Simulus for coming down and venting their electro-demons in a tasty little set.

Next OUTPOST will be pretty tasty with 2 feature sets that should inspire an eclectic night of music and video. Stay posted for details closer to the date.

Also, I’ve been able to find the time to get it together to go thru the recordings for both OUTPOST #15 and OUTPOST #16, so there will be 4 new podcasts following this post! If you don’t know about the podcast you can subscribe via iTunes here.

OUTPOST #15 Wrap

Thanks to all of you that came down to OUTPOST 15 last night!

Our secret and special guest was Robert Henke (aka Monolake) who was very generous with his time and played a great 1 hour 15 min set using his amazing Monodeck II interface (video), Ableton Live* and a MacBook that is on loan to him from Arck after his own laptop suffered a completely terminal motherboard failure. Big thanks again to Robert for coming down to be part of OUTPOST.

We also had a fab set from Evil Jed who bought his multi-pedal and laptop combo down to Horse Bazaar to lay some some tight breaks and great atmoses. Thanks to Jed for making it down as well.

And as always thanks to all the jammers - especially a strong turn out from our VJ’s: Matt Gingold, Projector Obscura and Jonty Burton among others.

Our audio jams will be up on the podcast and site in the next few days so stay tuned!

NEXT OUTPOST #16: Wednesday 27th February

* for those of you that may not know, Robert has been a key member in the development of Ableton Live from the outset and still is key member of the software development team at Ableton. See more here.

Outpost MIAF Wrap

Well, well, well… that’s it for us for this years Melbourne International Arts Festival. It has been an intense and inspiring eight days of shows for all of us here at Outpost.
First up, a massive thanks to all the artists who came down and contributed their time and flexed their skills over the season.

Although we have been representing collectively for some time, here is a list of all the fine individuals that put in to make this event such a success.

On Sound; Joe Talia, Byron Scullin, Dan West, Soup, JD Franzke, Ptero_Stylus (Glen Christiansen), Sam Price, Evil Jed, Ross Bencina, Jon Pak and Amanaska (Simon Lewis)

On Video; Eugenia Lim, Jonty Burton, Matthew Gingold, Tim Webster, Keith Grayspace, Projector Obscura and Amanaska (Simon Lewis)

Warmest thanks to festival director, Kristy Edmunds for her support and positive feedback on Outpost’s contribution to MIAF. Props to Kent and Kate from Beck’s Bar at The Meat Market who kept things running to schedule and ensured performers were suitably watered.

Every night had a different flavor, big up to Boz for crunching and uploading all the performances to the site. It was great to have so much diversity in the performances and fun experimenting with different contexts established by artists scheduled for the main stage.

Right on crew, and remember, the next Outpost is Wednesday the 28th of November at the Horse. Jammers, see you next Wednesday for beverages chez la maison de Gingold..

Out..

Outpost #13 wrap

A short but sweet Outpost #13 this month…

Matt Rosner and Simon Hampson’s feature set was fantastic, giving everyone there a treat and going all places good. The early starting time (due to Outpost sharing the night with Digital Fringe) caught a few crew off guard, big up to Sam and Jed for making the jams. Also good to see Amanaska who has just returned from a two month jaunt rocking the globe.

Time to synchronize watches, Melbourne International Festival is upon us and will feature eight nights of Outpost action with regular jammers, special guests and walk-ins.
Stay Tuned, it’s gonna be the shiznit…

OUTPOST #12 wrap
